Pudding and Cakes

I realise one shouldn’t believe everything they read in the papers but when I saw an article, stating that schools are going to ban desserts and cakes from their menus in a bid to cut down on fat children, it made me think that the heads in charge are doing too little too late and are suffering from insanity.

Don’t these fatheads understand that the problem runs far deeper than their food halls?

Banning parking near schools, introducing more rigorous competitive sport, and adding healthy lifestyle lessons to the syllabus would be a welcome start and punishing parents who abuse their kids by feeding them so much it makes them obese would help.

Home life could do with more stricter parenting. Limiting phone, computer, games console and television usage is a must and getting the little urchins to move about rather than sit, sit, sit would dramatically aid their welfare.

My guess is that society has devolved into putting children first and we have allowed them to rule the roost.

When I heard about a child being taken into social care because the parent refused to give ice cream and doughnuts and it got all the way to court then I am stunned. Treats are okay occasionally and if they can be afforded but as a normal staple it is crazy.

Then there is the fact that a social worker deemed the parent bad for not giving in a offering crap. She should be sacked and the protocols revisited and adjusted.

Starving children is a criminal offence and is bad for children’s growth but surely the same can be said for over feeding them? They will develop diabetes, heart conditions, skin problems and all sorts of other weight issues but no action is taken against the parents over that. Both are abuse but only one seems to be a legal argument.

So before puddings and cakes are banned please take a step back and think about how things were. Kids have always liked puddings and cakes but until recently there wasn’t a problem as the calories were burnt off during daily life.

So limits should be set and rules laid down. Think before we sink.

Reading Newspapers Online

I love the ability of being able to read the latest news headlines and articles online and for free and I fully understand that the free platform has to have advertisements to offset the charge of buying the paper.

What I find very sad and annoying is that on some of the tabloid sites the side columns are taken up by female and z-list celebrities that years ago would have gone unnoticed. Add that to the fact that a major part of the online real estate is lost to these brainless and self-centred obscenities.

All these young girls on the main are dressed in skimpy outfits and are so stick thin as to make one vomit. That also makes the young girls in society try and emulate these overpaid zeros and spend money on fashion that neither they or there parents can afford.

Why does the world have to know what colour bikini Ms Pop-singer is wearing or the beach that some reality star has visited? Can’t some folk sleep or exist unless this information is displayed for their pleasure?

Why can’t they just be incorporated into the column’s articles rather that have a whole section dedicated to their over-bearing status? Can’t these people see that they are damaging our future generations into believing that everyone can be a pop idol, actor, social dignitary or reality star who are paid to be dumb, wear bad fashion and lead a seemingly perfect and exotic life? Don’t people understand that it is mainly all a sham made up by papers to void their bowels on society?

Live concerts by these trendy newbies has to rely on displays and light shows rather than musical content and ability as on the whole they have none. It just goes to prove how shallow our younger generation has become.

Take the Old Guard Bands like The Rolling Stones, the reunited Led Zep, and many more such names and the contrast is very different. These guys had to cut their teeth on playing the clubs/pubs, recording albums and seeking agents to promote their work and if you couldn’t make the grade you were left behind. Today anyone can shoot and record a video, overlay some sound and edit the finale score to post online. Yes this may prove trendy and cool but in reality they are forced-grown pap to ensure the platforms that promote them can remain in business.

Society is changing at a very fast pace and I must say that I am not a huge fan of most of these changes.

I like to read online rather that have to go to a shop to buy the news. I love the Ai speakers and technology that enriches my home’s entertainment. I do have positive emotions for a handful of cars. I am in awe at how quickly and easily one can keep in touch with friends.

However, I cannot stand the cheap and tacky fashion industry that is destroying the market and raising the costs of a wardrobe. I find it morally crass to see reality taking over society. I abhor the lack of new quality entertainment to play on this updated technology. I loath most of the modern designers of cars with their lack of individuality as most cars today look the same but as I stated above there are still a few that slip through.

So please, Mr Tabloid Online Paper Editor, stop this side bar advertising of all things crass and unreal and concentrate on bringing us news items worthy of publication and have a core of truth and sageness. In other words get out of the office and become real journalists and newspaper people.

Exercise or the Lack of it…

For three or four months now I have found it very hard to find the motivation, time and excuse to do some form of exercise and this is no good. One can’t keep saying that tomorrow is the day.

It is time for action and find my way again.

I do not know where my “MoJo has gone. Hopefully it just on holiday and not lost for good. I pray to God its not because I am lapsing back into depression as that is the last place anyone wants to find themselves in.

Yes I could free up some space so I can get to my bicycle or go for a jog instead of watching a film but I don’t and that my friends is very sad.

Its not that I am depressed it is just that life seems to be getting in the way, it is raining or (as at present) I am struck down by hayfever.

I also know that leaving things so long will mean there is a lot of pain and uncomfort to come. However, some reports say that exercising regularly is fine but as soon as one stops then the problems occur.

This has go me thinking as without exercise I am putting weight on. So maybe changing my diet would be better that trying to kid myself I can still run, cycle and do the gym thing. But there lays the rub. I am crap at producing healthy food options and even when I do I am left feeling more hungry than I was without having a meal in the first place.

Anyhow, without exercise the body will decay and become a useless husk.

I know I walk many miles at work but experts say that it is virtually meaningless unless I go at a pace where I am out of breath and my heart rate increases. I cannot do this whilst reading addresses, stopping to undo gates and knocking on doors. However, after work I feel shattered both physically and mentally and the idea of exercising then is just too much and would probably cause me more problems. See, yet another excuse!

I hate being fat, I loath the symptoms of hayfever, I abhor my love of food without the skill to make it healthy and I have disdain for all the aches and pains that ensue with age.

“So get up and do something about it you arse!”

One possibility is to take the initiative and go to a local gym and take advantage of some low impact routines and fit it in, whatever, around work and sleep. The staff are there to help motivate and set suitable plans too.

I have to do something as clothes are getting a little tight and that is just not good as I am not funding a new wardrobe around a bigger me. I must fit around what I have.

This must be the case for many others out there and I can only say this. We are not alone and for the vast majority there is a cure.

Put down the TV remote and game console controller, resist buying the crisps, chocolate and cakes, change your routine and look for others in the same position for support. This is my aim and I certainly will strive to do so.

I do not want to have the body of an old wreck of a man with a young mind so changes must be put into place and a plan of action put down.

I wish myself and all the very best of luck and I hope to have some positive feedback very soon. September heralds my 52nd year so I am setting my goal for then to see a new Frog.

Kids and Technology

We live surrounded by technology and gadgets so is it right that they are taking centre stage in our lives?

The planet has increased in population dramatically and some areas have become very densely covered that traditional games and activities are being lost to our children due to social safety.

Parents have a busier life today and often both parents have to work to make ends meet. It is little wonder that iPads, game consoles, computers and phones are being used as surrogate parents as they keep the kids occupied and quiet.

The downside is that these children can grow up with a lack of social interaction and can be very withdrawn to the point of being unable to contribute to the work-places of the future or peer groups of interest.

Of course this modern technology can be used sensibly and can enhance a child’s learning and knowledge skills but it has to be balanced with traditional activities and parental guidance.

I hear so many of the older generation bemoaning modern technology but they do not stop and reflect on their own hypocrisy.

Take the car for example. It made journey times shorter but that in itself took away from the adventure and experience of the journey. It also made us into lazy people who use the car for even the most basic journeys like going a few hundred yards to the shops. Television was the same. Prior to this families listened to the radio, chatted, played games and read in the evenings and had adventures in the open air by day.

So each generation is guilty of being sucked into technological advances and the electronic and Ai age is just today’s example. Used carefully these advanced toys are fun and fulfilling but beware of the pitfalls and vices that can trip you up.

There are many who are trapped into the modern day inventions, some who will reject them totally and then there are the ones who will use these tools in a balanced and enhancing way.

I like my phone, music assistant, tablet and computer but also like the outdoors (when the pollen count is low), face to face chats, museums and other stimulus to fill my days. The biggest crime is that everything costs so much now and stupid health and safety laws stop us from doing what we could a generation ago.

The magic is though how far and how much one interprets what is best; so how will you manage our next generations future?
